During one of my visits to Northampton my partner and I were deciding on somewhere to eat. We were around the Wellingborough Road area and there are many choices on the road so it was a difficult choice. In the end we decided to eat at an Indian restaurant called Merlin’s Tandoori. It has an interesting aesthetic on it’s exterior and an intriguing name so we thought we ought to give it a try.

To start we ordered a couple of Poppadoms before our meal, however we didn’t order any other starters. They did have other choices for starters but we felt the Poppadoms would be enough. The Poppadoms were nice and crispy and a good thing to snack on just before our main meal.
For our mains the choices of Thalis were what swayed us! We decided to order a different thalli each and we said we would share from each others plates. The Thalis were definitely a good shout, as it was a big selection of food for a decent price! We definitely got our money’s worth. I ordered the Tandoori Thali whilst my partner ordering the Meat Thali. The Tandoori Thali included Chicken Tikka, Sheek Kebab, Vegetable Curry, ¼ a Tandoori Chicken, Pilau rice and a naan bread. The Meat Thali included Chicken Bhuna, Lamb Bhuna, Broccoli Bhaji, Tikka Massala, Pilau rice and a Naan Bread. The Meat Thali was £10.95 and the Tandoori Thali was £11.95. There also had a Vegetable Thali avaliable if you didn’t want to eat meat which would be nice to try on our next visit. The food was delicious so no complaints there, the array of curries included in the Thalis were lovely. The food wasn’t too spicy so if you want something really spicy we recommend you order something other than the Thalis.
After the food we were so full! The portion sizes were superb. They did have a desert menu however we were too stuffed to try any or even look at it haha. The service was excellent, the staff were very attentive, friendly and made you feel at ease. We were not rushed at all and were allowed to enjoy our meal peacefully. It was a pleasure dining there. We went on a Sunday night and it wasn’t too busy, it is quite a small restaurant but we had no trouble getting a seat. We really enjoyed the aesthetic of the restaurant, it looked really majestic on the outside which really helped us when deciding to dine at the restaurant. It definitely sticks out as a restaurant. The inside design was quite simple so nothing special there.
To conclude we loved our experience here and would come again! The service was excellent and the food was tasty, with decent prices! We would definitely recommend if in the Northampton area.
